Head of Hatshepsut (?)

Egyptian (Artist)
early 20th century (modern)
limestone, red and black paint
(Ancient Egypt and Nubia )

This head is the portrait of a king, perhaps Hatshepsut. The figure wears a false beard, a royal head-cloth and a diadem with a uraeus at the front. The piece is broken flat at the back and probably was attached to a relief. There is a repaired break across the forehead. This head is a forgery, as indicated by stylistic inconsistencies and elements detected in the materials used.
