Vase Depicting a Seated Hercules
(18th and 19th Centuries )
Josiah Wedgwood developed this black ware painted with matt colors to imitate ancient Greek, red-figure pottery. Known at the time as "painted Etruscans," these ceramics were widely collected as examples of the "archaeological" taste that prevailed during the first half of the 19th century.
