Tsuba with Gourd with Grasshopper
(Japanese Military Armor)
This silver tsuba is shaped in the form of a gourd. One large gourd fills the right side and lower section. Leaves and a smaller gourd are on the top. The hole for the utility knife, on the left is in the space between the main gourd and the leaves. A cricket perches below the central opening. Gourds are a symbol of longevity.
