Screwdriver

French (Artist)
19th century
gilded steel, wood
(Islamic World )

This screwdriver is associated with the so called "Turkish Hunting Set," and fits into a velvet recess in the large Parisian Devisme case (Walters 64.165). The steel screwdriver appears to be machine-made and fits into the glossy hexagonal dark wood handle. The object is possibly original to the Devisme case (Walters 64.165) along with the other accoutrements, such as the bullet mold (Walter 51.85) and the belt and flasks (Walters 51.83). It would appear that these objects were only put in association with the Ottoman rifle (Walters 51.84) after they had been in use for some time.
