Vase in Shape of Woven Basket
This vase is in the shape of woven basket in a lotus pond. It would have been used for ikebana. Ikebana is the art of flower arranging. Several considerations go into selecting the flowers and plants, and baskets and vases—such as this example—for the arrangements: season, color, fragrance, form, material, and symbolism. Ikebana arrangements, therefore, are like sculpture—the resulting forms can range widely in size and composition.
