Circular Snuffbox thought to portray Sophie Thullier
(18th and 19th Centuries )
Tortoise-shell box. The lid or cover is set with a miniature portrait formerly thought to depict the Marquise d'Orvilliers, but now thought to show Sophie Thuillier, by Marie-Gabrielle Capet. This portrait is set in a gold frame. This portrait is after a pastel by Capet now in the collection of the Musee des Beaux-Arts d'Orleans. The miniature has been dated on the bases of the dress the sitter wears.
