Étui (needle case)
(18th and 19th Centuries )
This guilloché engraved case has been covered with blue, transparent enamel. Putti are depicted in painted enamel insets. On the lid is a seated putti with a dove resting on its hand, and on the other side a seated putti holding a ribbon tied to a dove in flight. On the body of the case is a putti watching two billing doves, and on the other side a putti at the alter of love holding a bow and torch and wearing a quiver of arrows on its back. It was likely used to store needles, the profile of the container is very slim.
