Picture Book of New Patterns for Various Trades
The artist notes in the preface the intention of this picture book: to provide “detailed pictures of buildings for the sake of artists who want to feature such [architectural] structures in their pictures.” This book focuses on architecture. It begins with a portrait of an elegantly dressed master carpenter, and beside him are tools of his trade. Some images are spread across a double-page spread, to allow for a larger-scale composition. Several architectural details are featured. And interspersed among ornate building designs are illustrations of practical construction, such as one of a suspended bridge.
