Description
Etruscan artists imitated Greek black-figure ware during the later 6th through the mid-5th centuries BC. On this amphora (two-handled storage vessel), running satyrs gesture wildly beneath a procession of birds. The vivid animation of the figures is typical of Etruscan art, and their dance-like poses and proportions are probably inspired by the wall-paintings of contemporary Etruscan tombs.
