Covered Vase
(18th and 19th Centuries )
This vase is composed of an urn-shaped porcelain body which has been accentuated with elaborate ormolu or gilt-metal mounts. Topping the lid are two playful putti, one with a circlet of vine leaves around his head. The porcelain, which was possibly manufactured by Sèvres, has been decorated with a dark blue ground over which gilded decoration has been added at the urn's middle and just above the gilt-metal foot. Impressed marks found on the foot of the vase indicate it may have been part of the furnishings of the Chateau de Saint-Cloud, just west of Paris.
