Watch with Benjamin Franklin
(18th and 19th Centuries )
On the back of this case is an enamel plaque showing Franklin seated at a table on which stands a bust of Isaac Newton. This image is taken from a portrait painted in London in 1766/7 by David Marton (1737-98),
Breguet et Fils, the most illustrious firm in the history of eighteenth-century French horology, produced the watch movement. Abraham-Louis Breguet, a watchmaker from Neuchatel, founded the house at Quai d'Horloge about 1775 and was joined by his son Louis Antoine in 1807.
