Cup and saucer
This cup and saucer set would have primarily been used to consume tea, however, this shape of cup was sometimes included in coffee and chocolate services. Both the cup and saucer have fluted surfaces and gilt, scalloped edges ringed in a cobalt-blue glaze. The popular “hop trellis” pattern, which consists of alternating gold staves and berried hop vines, fills the white ground of both porcelain pieces. This particular Sèvres pattern became internationally popular and other European porcelain manufacturers, such as Royal Worcester of England, copied the French design.
