Yanone
(Japan and Korea )
Soga Goro sharpens a double-tipped arrow on a large whetstone in preparation for the day when he and his brother will avenge their father's murder. The print depicts an actor in a Kabuki play. He assumes a dramatic pose, or "mie," in order to make a powerful impression on the audience. His stylized wig and make-up are associated only with characters of strength and righteousness.
