Aphrodite with Eros
(Roman Empire )
This statuette has been highly polished. It depicts a nude Aphrodite posed with her left hand to touch her right thigh. Her right arm is bent at the elbow. Her head (now missing) is posed to turn right, and her hair is falling behind her left shoulder. At her left side is a dolphin. Standing on the back of the dolphin is a winged Eros (Cupid) holding up a disc mirror. The piece is made with a base.
The head, two hands and the right end of the base are gone. The wings of Eros and part of the dolphin have been restored in plaster.
