Enameled Watch with the Virgin and Child and Joseph

Schlecher (French) (Clockmaker)
Style of Jean-Pierre Huaud (Swiss, 1655-1723) (Artist)
ca. 1690
gold, glass, and painted enamel case; gold and enamel dial; partially gilded brass, steel, and silver movement
(Baroque Europe )

This example retains the original highly decorated enamel dial. The introduction of white enamel made reading the time much easier. On the reverse of the case is a painted enamel scene of the Holy Family.

Inscription

[Signature] Schlecher à Paris
