Oval Reliquary
(Medieval Europe )
One or more relics were originally displayed behind the open grillwork of this unusual reliquary, which was meant to be hung, perhaps above the altar. This type of pointed, oval reliquary is extremely rare, and only one other example is know to still exist in Vienna, Austria (Kunsthistorisches Museum).
