Landscape with Old Tree and Rocks
(18th and 19th Centuries )
Barye accompanied his colleagues on sketching expeditions in the Fontainebleau Forest. In this landscape, which resembles the backgrounds in many of his paintings, he has recorded what is thought to be the Gutenberg Oak, a well-known tree mentioned in early guide books.
