Lion and Lioness Attacking a Wild Boar

Auguste-Nicolas Cain (French, 1822-1894) (Artist)
modeled: ca. 1875; cast: after 1882
bronze
(18th and 19th Centuries )

Cain, the son of a butcher, was a highly regarded animal sculptor who modeled large-scale works for public locations in Paris, such as the Luxembourg Gardens, the Tuileries Gardens, and the city hall. This particular example is a reduction (a copy in a smaller size) of a work that he made for one of the entrances to the Tuileries Gardens.
