Description Conservation Provenance Inscription Credit
Description Capricorn, the sign of the marine goat in the zodiac, is carved in relief on the counter. The number 8 is inscribed on the back in both Latin and Greek numerals (VIII and H). Roman game counters show a wide variety of objects: Muses, deities, and heroes, heads of Roman rulers, poets, philosophers, theatrical subjects, fingers indicating numerical calculation, buildings in Alexandria, and signs of the zodiac, as here.
