Ferdinand II de' Medici, Son of Cosimo II, Husband of Vittoria della Rovere

Style of Justus Sustermans (Flemish, 1597-1681) (Artist)
17th century
oil on canvas
(Renaissance Europe )

Ferdinando II de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, (1610–1670), Grand Duke of Tuscany 1621–1670, presided over a period of great decline in the fortunes ofthe Medici family and of Tuscany.. Sustermans was a Medici court portraitist but the portraits of Ferdinand and his wife appear to be workshop pieces, of the type commonly produced to fill the wide demand for portraits of the ruling family.
