Girl with Hair Dressed in Rolls Above the Ears
(Renaissance Europe )
This bust-length portrayal of a young woman wearing a discrete tiara is sufficiently damaged that assessment is made difficult without testing. This piece was formerly polychromed, and the forehead has been repaired, as has the top of her head. It requires further study, both techically and historically. The damaged areas prompt the queston of the work possibly having had a utilitarian use in connection with the veneration of a saint rather than being intended as a straight-forward portrait of a young woman. As of September 2023 we are also waiting for results of testing on the materials that would greatly influence dating.
