Cameo with Battle of the Israelites and the Amalekites
(Renaissance Europe )
An artist working on this small scale needs dexterity to keep the details of a crowded battlefield crisp. A cameo of the same battle (described in Exodus 17), monogrammed HSR by the same talented but otherwise unidentified master, is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, and was in the Habsburg imperial collections by the early 1600s.
