Study for Charles VII, the Victorious
(18th and 19th Centuries )
Barye has traced the outlines of the equestrian statuette, Charles VII, on a pedestal (Walters 27.164). He has not fully aligned the tracing over the paper and as a result, the horse's left forefoot is not placed squarely on the top of the pedestal. At one side is a freely rendered sketch of a tazza, a Renaissance-style flat dish with deer's-hoof feet.
