Le Nouveau Testament de Nostre Seigneur Jesus Christ
(Manuscripts and Rare Books)
This book is the original 17th-century fanfare binding from which the Catalogue of an Exhibition Illustrative of the Text of Shakespeare's Plays (Walters 92.1269) was copied. Only some differences in the coloring of the leathers and the lack of clasps on the copy distinguish the two. The gold tooling was achieved by laying gold leaf over the leather and pressing heated brass tools into the surface, leaving the design behind in gold.
