Alexandre Le Faucher, the maker of this watch, was appointed "horloger" or clockmaker to Louis XV, the King of France, in 1746, just a few years before he created this timepiece.

[Watch maker’s mark] engraved on backplate: LeFauchuer A Paris / N 1025 hogr. du Roy; [Case maker’s mark] stamped on inner edge of bezel: FG; [Case maker’s mark] stamped on interior back of case: FG [surmounted by a six-petal florette or pinion]; [French discharge hallmark] stamped on interior back of case: [stag's head] [discharge mark of Julien Berthe, the sous-fermier 1750–1756]; [French year hallmark]: stamped on interior back of case: K [surmounted by a crown] [for 1750–1751]; engraved on regulator: Avance / Retarde; scratched on the inner edge of the bezel: 237 M 134CL; scratched on interior back of case: 3826 / 12141 / S/C 204/2 / Sc 202 / HM36 / 97446

Acquired by Tiffany & Co., New York, by 1893 [mode of acquisition unknown] [1]; purchased by Henry Walters, Baltimore, 1897; by bequest to Walters Art Museum, 1931.
