Diptych with the Nativity and Adoration

Mosan (?) (Artist)
Flemish (?) (Artist)
4th quarter 14th century (Medieval)
ivory
(Medieval Europe )

The left wing combines the scene of the Nativity with that of the Annunciation to the Shepherds; the right shows the Adoration of the Three Kings. The scenes are set beneath arcades of three trefoil arches.

The two scenes are based on the large Passion Diptychs, for example, Walters 71.272. Details relate to Walters 71.201 and other works attributed to Mosan or Flemish artists.

Both panels are cracked vertically and one has been rejoined.
