Description This minute piece of ivory carving is mounted in a silver-gilt frame with a ring for suspension. It shows the Flagellation of Christ, bound to the central column which defines the space. He is scourged by three Roman soldiers. Another soldier grasps Christ's hair, preparing to strike him in the face, while a fifth readies a bundle of rods.
