Clasp for a Secular Garment
During the Middle Ages, copper mantle clasps with enameled decoration and gemstones were primarily made for church garments. This clasp from France was sewn onto fabric using holes around the borders. However, this piece, without figural representation and decorated with gemstones could have been worn with a secular garment.
